It is always an honor to be invited to photograph another photographer, especially a photographer’s family. The people they cherish the most. The people they probably have their own camera pointing at the most too. So when Chelsey of Tre Creative reached out to capture her second pregnancy, my heart skipped a beat. What an immense honor to be able to celebrate another woman’s journey of motherhood, and capture the person who is usually behind the camera at their Chico Maternity Session and Family Session.
As mothers, we so often find ourselves documenting the milestones of our littles, and our partners with our kids. So rarely do we find time to be in front of the camera ourselves. And so, especially as photographers, we turn to other photographers to help us with this. To capture us for once with our littles. As a family. To celebrate the milestones. Especially the ones that are fleeting, like pregnancy. To memorialize what the journey looks like, the ins the outs. The good and bad. And I loved doing that at Chelsey’s Chico Maternity Session.
Studio Motherhood
Chelsey and her husband have created the ultimate backyard studio at their home in Chico and it was so fun to capture them in it. The place where she invites mothers and families in for their portraits. This time, it was their turn. Their turn to cuddle in the bed as a family. To highlight the bump. Their turn to run around the studio and play. Relax together. And be photographed. And I hope these mean as much to them as it means to me.
Chelsey, Thank you for inviting me into your home and your home studio. For showing me what messy, creative motherhood looks like with a little toddler boy (this season of life is coming for me!). For allowing me to capture your family as you interact and play. As you hug and cuddle. As you battle toddler wishes and refusals to smile. Thank you for showing me what s wrong working mama of about to be two kids looks like. I will cherish these forever.
